Professor Steve Iliffe is an academic general practitioner who has worked in a large socially diverse inner-city group practice in N.W.London for 30 years. The first Professor of Primary care for Older People in the UK, he is also co-director (with Professor Ann Bowling) of the Centre for Ageing Population Studies in the Department of Primary Care and Population Sciences at University College London.

His research interests are in health promotion in later life and in mental health, particularly dementia syndrome. He is Associate Director for the UK national co-ordinating centre for Dementias & Neurodegenerative Diseases Research networks (DENDRON), and was a member of the NICE/SCIE dementia guidelines development group from 2004 to 2006. He was also a member of the Age Concern Inquiry into Mental Health and Well being in later life, in 2006, and of the External Reference Group for the National Dementia Strategy, in 2008.
