We would like to warmly congratulate Macmillan Cancer Support on their latest achievement. Macmillan has become the first UK charity to be awarded accreditation by the Customer Contact Association (CCA) for its Support Line and Mobile Information and Support Services.
This mark of quality service provides you with assurance of the standard of support and information they provide for the older people affected by cancer we support. The Support Line team is made up of cancer information nurses, cancer support specialists and welfare and financial advisors who are available to answer any questions people affected by cancer might have from diagnosis onwards. These staff also provide an invaluable referral service for those older people affected by cancer who may benefit from one to one support often in the older person’s own home.
This type of support is provided by Volunteer Advocates specially trained to support their peers. These volunteers have themselves been touched by cancer and so bring a very special rapport to the advocacy support relationship as these quotes from people who’ve been helped by our very special advocates show.
” David was a really good listener and I was able to tell him my story very easily and without any difficulties”.
“Audrey listens to me and was easy to talk to. She stills visits me or rings when she can’t”. “We talked about my treatment and the visits to hospital, also I feel comfortable with my advocates and know I can say anything and it will be confidential”.
